Anwar: Malaysia To Establish Sovereign AI Cloud

Malaysia has has taken in a lot of foreign investment in the field of AI and cloud computing. But just as the government has plans for a national AI model, similar plans are in place to establish a sovereign AI cloud. This is to ensure the security of our own national AI capabilities.

The Edge cites Prime Minister Ibrahim as saying “all these efforts are part of preparations for Malaysia to become an AI-driven nation by 2030“. According to the report, the matter was discussed during the National Digital Economy and 4IR Council (MED4IRN) meeting.

“Among the main agenda items were the implementation of MyDigital ID, which needs to be strengthened, and the status of MyGov Malaysia, which requires the cooperation and support of all ministries and agencies”, also said. He added that such measures are important  to ensure Malaysia remains competitive, resilient and ready to meet future technological challenges.

Previously, the Digital Ministry announced the National Cloud Computing Policy, or NCCP. This is meant to set a “strategic pathway for cloud adoption, driving innovation, economic resilience and digital inclusivity”. One of the goals associated with the policy is to establish Malaysia as a leading regional cloud and digital hub by 2030.
