
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met and greeted North Korean leader Kim Jong Un while taking part in China‘s Victory Day parade to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II at Tiananmen Square in Beijing this morning.
In a post on Facebook, Anwar said he shook hands with Kim.
“Coincidentally met with the head of the North Korean government, Kim Jong Un, who was also present to witness the parade at Tiananmen Square. Had time to shake hands and exchange greetings,” he said.
Earlier, Anwar and his wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, were met at the square by Chinese president Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan.
According to China‘s ministry of foreign affairs, 26 foreign leaders attended the large-scale military parade.
They included Russian president Vladimir Putin, Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian, Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni, Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto, and Myanmar’s acting president, Min Aung Hlaing.
