KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his appreciation to all parties, including the state government, for their tireless efforts in responding to the floods and landslides currently affecting Sabah.
“Thank you to the Chief Minister (Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor) and the state government for taking swift action in assisting the people and managing the flood and landslide disasters.
“I have instructed the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and the entire federal government machinery to provide full cooperation, including an additional allocation of RM10 million.
“However, we can see now that there are several needs that will require further funding beyond the initial flood response.
“At this point, we are focusing on providing food and shelter for the victims,” he told reporters after visiting the landslide site at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Gaya campus here today.
The prime minister also extended his appreciation to personnel at the temporary relief centres (PPS) and all parties who have been assisting the people in various ways during the flood and landslide crisis.
“From my visit to the PPS, I could see that the teams were well-prepared… The dedication of the personnel, including those working on electricity restoration, was evident in their hard work and commitment.
“I just want to stress that we must value the efforts of the Chief Minister, the state government, and the entire machinery down to the grassroots level, who are helping to ease the burden of disaster victims.
“God willing, the state government will coordinate with the federal government to determine which needs fall under the jurisdiction of the state or the federal level,” he added.
Anwar began his working visit to Sabah today at 2pm to assess the disaster situation that has impacted the state since last week.
Among his stops were the landslide site at Country Heights in Penampang, the PPS at SK St Paul Kolopis and Kampung Sarapung, and the landslide site at the IPG Gaya Campus.
