KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today demanded that the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), which includes 34 Malaysian activists, be granted unhindered access to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The Malaysian contingent is part of an international mission from 45 countries currently sailing in international waters near Greece.
They are attempting to break the blockade on the enclave and face significant risks, including potential threats from Israel.
Speaking on behalf of the prime minister, senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said any hindrance to the flotilla would only worsen the suffering of Gaza’s population.
He stated that the government, as a patron of the initiative, is closely monitoring the safety of the Malaysian humanitarian activists.
“The courage and perseverance of our activists undertaking this critical mission are deeply appreciated, as it reflects the spirit of Malaysians who are always concerned about the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Gaza,” Tunku Nashrul said during a Prime Minister’s Office briefing today.
He added that Anwar urged all Malaysians to unite in prayer for the activists’ safety and to continue supporting the humanitarian cause.
Tunku Nashrul stressed that the government and all Malaysians stand firmly behind the mission, which reflects the principles of solidarity and justice under Malaysia Madani.
Malaysia was the first country to officially recognise the mission through the prime minister’s support.
The GSF voyage across the Mediterranean is carrying essential food and medicine, along with a message of peace calling for an end to the war and the opening of humanitarian corridors to Gaza.
