KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told the Dewan Rakyat that he reprimanded his political secretary for issuing a contractor support letter for a hospital project.
Government regulations do not permit the issuance of such support letters, Anwar said during the Minister’s Question Time yesterday.
He said that even for letters addressed to him, the most he can remark is, “please review.”
“That is the standard,” he said when responding to a question from Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas).
“He (political secretary) prepared it, and I issued a strong reprimand because our regulations do not allow it. Some contracts need scrutiny, but support cannot be automatically given,” he said.
Ahmad Fadhli had raised the issue of Anwar‘s political secretary listing six contractors in a support letter for a hospital project, which he did not specify.
The Pas leader claimed that only two of the six contractors were qualified, while the others lacked Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) records.
