PETALING JAYA:

Prime Minister Ibrahim has approved an RM10 million allocation to be distributed to flood victims in Sabah through the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).

said these funds are on top of some RM11 million channelled through the Sabah state government.

He said he had also ordered the federal government’s machinery to be mobilised to assist victims and to ensure aid reaches them without hindrance.

“Our priority is to ensure the safety, welfare and survival of the flood victims by giving them immediate attention.

“The Madani government will ensure that every affected family will receive aid promptly. I urge all parties to unite and work together to help the rakyat,” he said in a Facebook post.

Heavy rain in Sabah has caused floods in Penampang and Beaufort, with over 400 people evacuated to shelters.

The floods have also led to electricity and water cuts due to the shutdown of power stations and water treatment plants.

The torrential rain has also caused two landslides which have so far claimed at least five lives.

The Sabah government has cancelled its state-level Malaysia Day celebrations in view of the situation, saying its immediate priority is to manage the crisis, coordinate recovery efforts and ensure rescue operations are carried out quickly.
