KUALA LUMPUR: In celebration of its golden jubilee, AmBank Group has unveiled a vibrant new LED illustration of its iconic camel mascot, now lighting up the streets of Kuala Lumpur.

The artwork, created by legendary cartoonist Datuk Mohammad Nor Mohammad Khalid — better known as Lat — is the largest of its kind and is prominently displayed on the 26-storey Menara AmBank at the bustling junction of Jalan Raja Chulan and Jalan P. Ramlee.

AmBank’s partnership with Lat spans decades, with the artist’s illustrations capturing the essence of the bank’s early years when it was known as Arab-Malaysian Bank.

“I’m always happy to draw for anything that involves the public. AmBank was the first to encourage me to do advertising, and I was free to do it,” Lat told the New Straits Times.

Tan Sri Azman Hashim, chairman emeritus and honorary adviser of AmBank Group, said the new illustration brought back fond memories.

“Our characters were his characters. Whenever people see camels, they’ll think of AmBank,” Azman said at the launch of the LED display.

In line with the bank’s golden jubilee theme, “Malaysia Kita,” AmBank has collaborated with Lat to produce new illustrations that reflect unity, togetherness, and diversity. These designs will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Chief executive officer Jamie Ling also emphasised that the bank’s core values are reflected in its logo.

“It’s a people’s bank. It’s displayed on the façade — Your Bank, Malaysia’s Bank, AmBank,” he said at the launch.

Also present at the unveiling ceremony were chairman and independent non-executive director Tan Sri Md Nor Md Yusof.
