SHAH ALAM, Nov 8 – Several Parti Amanah Negara delegates today demanded that their motions on the party’s internal elections — due to be carried out next year — be debated tomorrow.

The call briefly heated the generally peaceful atmosphere at Parti Amanah Negara’s National Convention 2025 just before the day’s session ended.

Earlier, Amanah vice-president Datuk Mohd Hatta Ramli announced that delegates had submitted 48 motions for debate, and that the committee reviewing all 48 motions had decided that four would be debated.

Hatta, who chairs the committee, explained that some delegates had submitted motions regarding the party’s 2026 elections, while others proposed that the elections be suspended and not held next year.

He clarified, however, that motions on the 2026 elections would not be debated tomorrow, as it was not yet time for a decision and the party constitution does not allow decisions to be made in advance.

Just before the convention adjourned for the day, several delegates took to the microphone in heated protest, arguing that motions on the 2026 party elections should be debated.

Hatta stepped in to explain that Amanah’s party elections are already scheduled for 2026 under the party constitution, and it was premature to discuss the matter at the 2025 convention.

“In the constitution, we will hold elections next year, so what is the issue? It is already in the constitution. When it is time, we discuss lah,” he said.

A quick check by Malay Mail of the motions booklet shows that the proposed motions for the 2026 party elections — whether to be held according to schedule or postponed — were categorised as accepted as proposals. This meant they were not accepted for debate tomorrow.

Amanah’s party elections were last held in 2023, and the current national leaders’ term runs from 2023 to 2026.

Earlier today, party delegate Ahmad Fadhli Umar Aminolhuda from Johor proposed that party elections be postponed until after the 16th general election (GE16), saying Amanah Johor places full confidence in Amanah President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and other leaders to lead the party into GE16.

Ahmad Fadhli Umar made his proposal while debating Mohamad’s speech.

GE16 must be held by February 2028 but could be called earlier.

What the 48 motions cover

Of the 48 proposed motions, 22 concerned government policies, two related to Pakatan Harapan and the unity government, seven focused on strengthening and administering Amanah, eight proposed amendments to the party constitution, and nine pertained to Amanah’s 2026 party elections.

Hatta explained that of the 48 motions, eight were accepted for debate and combined into the four motions to be debated tomorrow.

Of the remaining motions, 10 were rejected, 12 were accepted without debate, and 18 were accepted as proposals.
