PETALING JAYA: A total of 1,920 reports have been received in connection with the deaths of two animals allegedly left inside an abandoned veterinary clinic in Damansara Damai here, says the Veterinary Services Department (DVS).

The department said a team of animal welfare officers from its branch inspected the premises at Apartment Saujana in Damansara Damai following public complaints.

During the inspection, officers found the carcasses of a cat and a dog placed in separate cages, the department said.

“Both carcasses were sent to the department’s central zone veterinary laboratory in Salak Tinggi, Sepang, on Thursday (Dec 18) for post-mortem examinations to determine the cause of death,” DVS said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 17).

DVS has also initiated follow-up enforcement action under Section 112 of the Penal Code, calling in a suspect to provide a statement to assist in the investigation.

The department stated that investigations are ongoing, including efforts to identify and locate other potential witnesses who may be able to shed light on the case based on viral video recordings circulating on social media.
