All SOPs followed, says Yan camp operator after 39 fall ill

YAN: The operator of a camp where 39 people fell ill after a yet-to-be-identified infectious disease caused them to experience fevers, coughs and rashes said the facility adheres to all standard operating procedures.

The operator, who declined to be named, also said the camp has the necessary approvals for its operations.

He said the group of students and staff affected by the infectious disease had stayed at the camp from Thursday to Saturday.

However, no other visitors, staff, or himself had shown any symptoms.

“We all shared the same water source and stayed in the area, but to my knowledge, none of my staff or the subsequent group of students were affected,” he said.

The operator said the camp, which has been in operation for over twenty years, has been temporarily closed for two weeks as a precautionary measure.

“I hope the affected students will recover soon and that business in Titi Hayun will return to normal. This is the first such incident to have happened in this camp,” he added.

Earlier, Kedah Housing, Local Government and Health Committee chairman Mansor Zakaria said that 39 people, including secondary school students and staff, were displaying symptoms of fever, cough and rash.

They are being treated at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital.

A total of 763 students and staff from the school participated in the training.
