PETALING JAYA:

A new subject called “Alam dan Manusia: Pembelajaran Bersepadu” (Nature and Humanity: Integrated Learning) will be introduced for Year 1 to 3 pupils under the 2027 school curriculum, the education ministry announced today.

According to the ministry, it will replace Science, Health Education, Visual Arts Education and Music in the current curriculum.

It said “Alam dan Manusia” combines multiple disciplines – science, health education, music, visual arts, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and digital literacy – and will be taught using a team-teaching approach.

“Team-teaching supports the multi-disciplinary elements of this subject, allowing teachers to complement one another and meet pupils’ learning needs,” it said in a Facebook post.

“Two teachers are required to be in the classroom at the same time during teaching and learning sessions to plan, teach, and assess together.”

The ministry said for Level 1 (Years 1 to 3), the focus remains on strengthening literacy and numeracy skills as well as character development.

“Therefore, the number of subjects taught is kept to a minimum to help pupils strengthen their foundation,” the ministry said.

“Alam dan Manusia” was first introduced in 1982 under the Integrated Curriculum for Primary Schools (KBSR), but was replaced in 1994 by a combination of Science and Kajian Tempatan.

Earlier this week, education minister Fadhlina Sidek announced that a comprehensive student character development initiative would be rolled out in 2026, using an integrated approach embedded within existing subjects.

The initiative aims to reinforce moral values and character building through daily lessons and practical application.
