DAP Youth has hit back at Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan after he called on the DAP top leadership to advise its youth wing not to act rashly amid its tiff with Dr Akmal Saleh.
DAP Youth accused Akmal, the Umno Youth chief, of repeatedly triggering racial tensions and threatening political stability, and urged Mohamad to admit that this was the reality.
“The one who has been acting irrationally and rashly is Akmal alone. If Mohamad wants to advise anyone, he should start with the Umno Youth chief.
“Tell him to keep calm and to stop hampering the efforts of the Madani government,” the wing’s executive council said in a statement.
It said the working relationship between DAP and Umno was actually smooth, but Akmal was the only leader causing disarray in their ties.
The past week has seen DAP Youth and Akmal locking horns over the Penang hardware store that flew the national flag upside down.
DAP Youth’s Penang and Negeri Sembilan chapters had urged the party and youth wing’s national leadership to sever all ties with Akmal over the issue.
Akmal had laughed off the threat and dared DAP to cut ties with him, saying such a move would inadvertently mean ending DAP’s relationship with Umno, a key partner in the unity government.
Earlier today, Mohamad, also known as Tok Mat, expressed hope that the DAP leadership would advise its youth leaders not to act rashly over the issue.
