Aiman Athirah: Local authorities can relocate MyKiosk units to more strategic areas

KUALA LUMPUR: Local authorities are allowed to relocate MyKiosk units to ensure they are occupied and placed more strategically.

Deputy Local Government Development Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said this is one of the improvements made since the MyKiosk 2.0 rollout in May.

She added that kiosks can also be placed by the roadside if they meet safety requirements and have sufficient basic infrastructure.

“To ensure more effective and comprehensive implementation, the ministry has no objection to local authorities relocating kiosks to more strategic areas. In fact, the portable MyKiosk units can be moved according to local needs,” she said in the Dewan Negara today.

“Priority, however, will still be given to clustered placements in public hotspots.”

Aiman Athirah was responding to Senator Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz who had asked what immediate steps were being taken to ensure small traders and local entrepreneurs benefit from the facility.

She said her ministry had also set up an internal task force to assess location suitability and speed up kiosk occupancy.

Several integrated monitoring visits and engagement sessions with local authorities have also been carried out to identify issues and find immediate solutions.

So far, the occupancy rate for MyKiosk 1.0 has reached 94.39 per cent, while MyKiosk 2.0 stands at 89.07 per cent. For the remaining unoccupied units, Aiman Athirah said the ministry’s Local Government Department found the reasons included unsuitable locations, lack of basic infrastructure, and incomplete sites.
