Ahmad Zahid Urges Strong Commitment To Sustain Malaysia’s Halal Industry Edge

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) — A strong and integrated commitment is crucial to sustain Malaysia’s position as a global leader in the halal industry, given the country’s unique standing in the sector, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said such an approach would enhance the country’s halal economic potential, strengthen Malaysia’s position in the international market and deliver wider benefits to the people.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Malaysian Halal Industry Development Council chairman, said this was among the key points highlighted during the meeting on coordinating the national halal agenda, which focused on charting the direction of the country’s halal ecosystem.

“It is aimed at ensuring that Malaysia’s halal industry policies, development strategies and implementation remain relevant and competitive at the global level,” he said in a Facebook post today.

The meeting, chaired by Ahmad Zahid, was also attended by Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee, Halal Affairs Coordinator Datin Paduka Hakimah Mohd Yusoff and representatives from agencies involved in the country’s halal ecosystem.

Ahmad Zahid said that the meeting also underscored the importance of cross-agency coordination to ensure that all efforts are aligned and mutually reinforcing.

“Insya-Allah, with the determination and cooperation of all parties, Malaysia’s halal ecosystem will continue to thrive as a source of national pride, and a global reference point,” he added.
