Ahmad Maslan: Opposition asks for projects, rejects 2026 Budget

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan chided the opposition for making extensive demands despite not supporting the 2026 Budget.

“Yesterday, these opposition members didn’t even support the 2026 Budget, but today they’re asking for all sorts of things.

“Why didn’t you support it (the Budget) yesterday? You ask for this and that, but didn’t back the budget. I really don’t feel like answering,” Ahmad said during a sitting of the Dewan Rakyat today.

His remarks came after a question from Mersing Member of Parliament Muhammad Islahuddin Abas on infrastructure plans for the district, including proposals for a highway link from Senai–Desaru or the East Coast Expressway (LPT4) to Mersing.

Responding from across the aisle, Hulu Terengganu MP Datuk Rosol Wahid said Ahmad should resign if he did not want to answer questions.

“I said I did not feel like answering your questions, not that I am lazy to attend Parliament,” Ahmad replied.

Yesterday, the second reading of the 2026 Supply Bill, also known as the 2026 Budget, was passed in the Dewan Rakyat through a bloc vote.

The bloc vote was called by Kota Baru member of parliament Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan after Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Dr Amir Hamzah Azizan, completed his winding-up speech on the bill.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul announced that 120 MPs voted in favour of the bill, 67 voted against, with 35 MPs absent.
