Agong's Cup: Johor run up cricket scores as contenders sail through opening day

KUALA LUMPUR: There were no major surprises in the opening round of matches in the rugby Agong’s Cup competition today (Sept 6).

Johor, runners-up last year, sent an early warning to their rivals after hammering Pahang 122-17 in their pool B clash at the Johor Rugby Stadium at Mount Austin.

Fellow contenders and Terengganu also opened their campaigns with relatively straightforward wins.

Terengganu (pool B) eased to a 49-11 win against Kuala Lumpur at the Tengku Muhammad Ismail Stadium in Kuala Nerus.

In pool A, drubbed Kedah 46-3 at SMK Tuanku Abdul Rahman in Mergong.

The only minor upset of the day was Perlis who downed 41-30 at Tuanku Syed Putra Sports Complex in Kangar.

Next week’s matches (Sept 13) will see defending champions Royal Malaysian Police opening their campaign against Kedah (Pulapol, KL) and locking horns with Perlis at Padang Astaka, Petaling Jaya.

Johor will host Armed Forces while Terengganu will face Pahang at the Malaysia Pahang Sports School in Gambang.
