PETALING JAYA:

The Attorney-General’s Chambers said it will file a notice of appeal against the Kuala Lumpur sessions court’s decision to acquit blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris of a charge of making a seditious statement against the government.

In a statement today, the AGC said it has decided to file a notice of appeal against the decision in the near future.

Earlier today, sessions court judge Siti Aminah Ghazali acquitted Wan Azri, also known as Papagomo, after finding that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against him.

Nine prosecution witnesses were called during the trial.

The 42-year-old blogger was charged in January 2024 under the Sedition Act 1948 for claiming that the government was “pro-Israel and pro-Western nations”.

The remark was allegedly made in a Facebook video on Nov 8, 2023.
