KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has served a show cause notice on activist Che Muna Din, better known as Mona Din, over her posting on the ongoing Zara Qairina inquest in Sabah.
The AGC said in a statement that the notice was served to Mona Din on Wednesday (Sept 10) pursuant to Order 52 Rule 2B of the Rules of Court 2012.
The show cause notice is in relation to Mona Din’s Facebook post on the inquest uploaded last Thursday under the account name “Mona Din”.
The issuance of the show cause notice is part of the required procedure to initiate committal proceedings for contempt of court.
The AGC said that Mona’s posting had, among others, questioned the testimony of expert witness Dr Jessie Hiu from Kota Kinabalu’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital and that it could potentially influence public perception and interfere with the ongoing inquest proceedings.
“This department also wishes to inform that criminal charges against several other individuals who have made statements concerning the case involving Zara Qairina Mahathir, which have the potential to disrupt the inquest proceedings, will be brought in the near future.
“The department views seriously any action that may jeopardise the administration of justice and will not hesitate to take firm action in accordance with the law against any party who engages in such conduct.
“Accordingly, this department reminds the public not to upload, comment on, or disseminate any posts that may cause confusion or interfere with ongoing court proceedings,” it said.
