Police have received new instructions from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to take certain actions to complete the investigation into the death of Year 4 pupil Iman Zhafran Hafizuddin, who was found unconscious at a school in Senawang, Seremban.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Alzafny Ahmad said the AGC had returned the investigation paper and told police to take certain actions before resubmitting it, Bernama reported.
“As the investigation paper is still in the process of being fully completed, all parties are urged not to make any statements that could impact the probe,” he said in a statement.
Alzafny said police would provide updates on the investigation once further instructions were received from the AGC.
Yesterday, the education ministry said police were still investigating the case, despite reports on Oct 14 stating that the probe had been completed and the investigation paper had been submitted to the AGC for action.
Alzafny had said then that the probe was thorough, with 49 witnesses having given their statements, and that it also involved Bukit Aman’s forensic investigation and behavioural science units.
Iman, who was found unconscious in the school toilet on Oct 1, was taken to a private clinic where he was pronounced dead. A post-mortem determined the cause of death to be compression to the neck, with no other injuries found on the body.
A lawyer acting for his family had demanded an inquest to determine the boy’s cause of death, expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of feedback from the police, the AGC, and the education ministry more than a month after his death.
