PETALING JAYA:

Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar said he is prepared to meet with the family of the late tahfiz student Wan Ahmad Faris Wan Abdul Rahman.

He said the investigation into the case is ongoing and that the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has informed the family’s lawyer that a meeting can be arranged as soon as a suitable date is agreed upon, Bernama reported.

“We are ready to meet and discuss the next course of action.

“We are waiting for the findings of the investigation,” he said after the investiture ceremony in conjunction with the 56th birthday of the Sultan of , Sultan Muhammad V, at Istana Balai Besar in Kota Bharu today.

Wan Ahmad Faris, a Form Four student, was found dead in a toilet at the Maahad Tahfiz Sains Nurul Aman boarding school in Kok Lanas, , in December 2013.

A forensic pathologist who performed the autopsy initially confirmed the case as a sudden death with no criminal elements. However, the coroner’s court reached a different conclusion in June 2016, ruling that the student was murdered.

On Sept 1, Wan Ahmad Faris’s family submitted a memorandum to the government, outlining three key demands, chief among them being an explanation for the demolition of the school toilet where he was found hanging, even though the official investigation had yet to be concluded.

Dusuki said the AGC was committed to ensuring a transparent investigation and pledged to keep the family informed of any developments periodically.
