Actress, husband remanded over RM1.5 million land scam

SEREMBAN: An actress and her husband have been remanded for three days to assist in an investigation into a land grant scam involving RM1.5 million in losses.

Magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah granted the remand order against the couple, aged in their 30s and 40s, following their arrest yesterday at a madrasah on Jalan Kuari Sungai Long, Kampung Sungai Serai, Hulu Langat.

As she was escorted to the court today, the actress told the press to report only verified information.

“Please write what is accurate, ya. Do not write unverified stories. Thank you,” she said.

Seremban police chief Assistant Commissioner Azahar Abdul Rahim said the case followed a police report lodged in the district.

“The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. Police request space to conduct a transparent investigation, and the public is advised not to interfere by issuing statements on social media,” he said.

Azahar said the victim is a 56-year-old retired property developer.

“The victim is suspected to have been scammed by a friend in a deal to obtain land grants from the state government.

“The complainant stated that on Sept 21, 2023, he was offered several plots of land in the Cheras sub-district by a man who promised the plots would be granted land status by the state government,” he said.

The victim then entered into a deal with the suspect and made multiple transactions.

Azahar said the male suspect used his father’s and his wife’s bank accounts to receive payments totalling RM1.5 million for the land process.

It was previously reported that a beauty product entrepreneur had also claimed to be a victim of the actress and her husband.

The entrepreneur alleged in a post on the Threads application that the actress, who frequently appears in television dramas, was hiding after swindling her out of RM300,000.

She further claimed other victims suffered losses reaching millions of ringgit.
