BEIJING, Sept 12 (Bernama) — The All-China Journalists Association (ACJA) is keen to work with its counterpart in Malaysia to establish a regional federation of journalist associations, said Wu Xu, secretary of the ACJA secretariat.
She expressed optimism about such possibilities, which can promote regional cooperation, given the goodwill and strong momentum between the two countries presently.
“We (ACJA) also enjoy very friendly bilateral cooperation with our counterpart in Malaysia. We have a mechanism of two-way exchange and regular visits with the Malaysian association of journalists. ACJA is ready to expand the cooperation to the regional level.
“However, such an idea (of a regional federation of journalist associations) requires further coordination and consultation,” she told a group of journalists from the Global South countries who visited the ACJA Press Hall here on Friday.
According to Wu, she is aware of a regional association of journalists at the ASEAN level; however, ACJA have not engaged in any cooperation with the association.
Some of the members of the Belt and Road Journalist Network are from the member states of ASEAN, she said.
Besides Belt and Road countries, ACJA is also keen to expand cooperation with journalists in the Global South countries, she added.
ACJA is China‘s most influential journalists’ organisation representing 1.2 million professionals working in the press industry across the Land of the Great Wall.
Established in 1937, its function now includes setting up press centres during important national events to provide information for local and international journalists as well as conducting news exchanges with journalists’ organisations from more than 120 countries.
