Accurate Government Information Key To Youth Empowerment – Wan Azizah

KLANG, Sept 21 (Bernama) — Youth must be equipped with accurate information on the government’s MADANI initiatives, particularly those related to personal development, to strengthen their social and economic prospects, says Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Wan Azizah, who is also the chairperson of Kasih Malaysia, the charity and welfare organisation of wives of Pakatan Harapan leaders, said young people must be able to critically assess the information they receive.

“In this era of digitalisation, especially after COVID-19, authenticity of information has become a major challenge.

“We need more effective communication. Some claim they are unaware of government assistance, even as the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Ibrahim) travels globally to secure investments for the benefit of the people,” she said when officiating the Nadi Aspirasi Nasional Bersama Anak Muda (NANBA) programme here today.

She noted that the flood of false information risks drowning out the fact that the government provides various forms of assistance, including in health and education, all aimed at ensuring children are healthy and well-educated.

Wan Azizah also urged youth to maintain proper ethics and etiquette when expressing opinions on social media, reminding Malaysians to uphold eastern values even in the digital space.

“Use respectful, positive and professional language when engaging in online discussions. Avoid posting negative or inappropriate comments. Let’s uphold our values and fill our lives with positivity,” she said.

She stressed that youth are key to the country’s future, noting that himself began advocating for the people in his younger days.

“I believe there are future leaders among you today, individuals of integrity who will not be easily swayed by misinformation,” she said.

To secure a better future for the youth, Wan Azizah underscored the importance of strengthening family institutions, particularly in supporting education.

The NANBA programme, organised by the Department of Community Communication (JKOM), is a strategic initiative to engage with the Indian community, particularly youth. The event featured MADANI Rahmah sales, a Rona MADANI art competition, service counters from various government agencies, henna art contests, health screenings and immunisation programmes.

Also present were JKOM director-general Datuk Ismail Yusop and Sentosa assemblyman Dr Gunaraj George, who distributed MyKasih aid to 300 recipients.
