IPOH: A container truck accident at KM256.7 on the northbound North-South Expressway between Menora Tunnel and the Kuala Kangsar exit, caused a seven-kilometre traffic jam.
PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) traffic reported all lanes were blocked as of 2.16pm with contraflow traffic activated from KM257.3 to KM256.2. Northbound vehicles were diverted at the Ipoh South Toll Plaza, with a U-turn at Menora Tunnel in place.
The incident was first reported at 12.12pm with traffic at a standstill. Congestion affected both directions.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the accident involved a trailer loaded with detergent that skidded and blocked the road at 12.06pm.
A 39-year-old male passenger sustained serious injuries and was rescued by passersby before being handed over to Health Ministry personnel.
“The rescue operation applied the Systematic Approach to Rescue Entrapped Victims system. After PLUS cleared the trailer, firefighters removed debris to reopen the road,” he said.
He added that operations were under control by 1pm and completed by 1.44pm. — Bernama
