Aaron-Wooi Yik lose to Indonesian pair again in French Open

PETALING JAYA:

National men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik failed to make it to the finals of the French Open, losing to Indonesian pair Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Shohibul Fikri early this morning.

The world No 2 pair were sent packing by the seventh-ranked Indonesians in straight games of 14-21, 19-21 in 40 minutes in their semi-final match at the Glaz Arena in Cesson-Sevigne.

Aaron-Wooi Yik have now lost both their encounters against Fajar-Shohibul to date. They were also beaten in straight games at the Open in July.

Despite their defeat, the Malaysians took home US$13,300 (RM56,200) for reaching the semi-finals of the World Tour Super 750 championships.

The French Open was their 10th semi-final appearance in the 17 tournaments they have competed in this year. They made it to six finals and won three titles – the Badminton Asia Championships, the Singapore Open, and the Thailand Open.

Aaron-Wooi Yik are placed second in the World Tour Finals standings, where only the top eight pairs will qualify for the season finale, to be played in Hangzhou, , in December,

Each country will be limited to two pairs per category in the US$3 million Super 1000 tournament. Man Wei Chong-Te Kai Wun are fifth on the list while Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani are placed ninth.

Five tournaments remain before the World Tour Finals.
