KAJANG: A total of 94 illegal immigrants were nabbed in two separate raids in the state on Aug 18 and 19.

Immigration Department of Malaysia director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said 46 undocumented migrants were detained in the first raid at a theme park in Sungai Long on Monday.

“Acting on public complaints and two weeks of intelligence gathering, the enforcement team was deployed to the first location, where 123 people comprising 52 foreigners and 71 locals were inspected.

“Following inspections, 46 undocumented migrants were detained, consisting of 31 Myanmar men, nine Myanmar women, two Indonesian men, three Bangladeshi men and one Thai woman,” he said in a statement today.

He said the department also issued four witness summonses to four locals to assist in the investigation.

Meanwhile, in the second operation, 48 undocumented migrants were detained in raids on a factory and a supermarket around Balakong and Puchong at about 11.45am on Thursday.

“A total of 64 people were inspected, and 48 undocumented migrants were detained.

“They comprised citizens of Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, India and Pakistan, aged between 18 and 49.

“During the raid, some of them tried to flee and hide, but enforcement officers managed to stop them.

“This enforcement action was taken following public complaints about employers hiring foreign nationals at the locations without valid documents,” he said.

He said those detained were taken to the Lenggeng Immigration Depot to assist investigations under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
