NIBONG TEBAL: A flash flood triggered by heavy rainfall inundated parts of Kampung Baru in Simpang Ampat here today, affecting at least 70 homes.

Authorities reported no casualties.

State Fire and Rescue Department operations division assistant director John Sagun Francis said the flash flood was reported at 10.57am, prompting a swift response from firefighters.

“At that time, water levels had reached about 0.1m, but no rescue operations were needed as no one was trapped or injured. The situation was brought under control by 11.20am.

“The floodwaters gradually receded, particularly around the Sungai Junjung area,” he said in a statement here today.

Shortly after the incident, a call was received at 12.11pm of a motorist whose vehicle had stalled in Sungai Bakap.

The Toyota Vios was believed to have skidded and entered a flooded stretch, causing the vehicle to stall.

The 24-year-old driver managed to exit the vehicle safely.
