TANAH MERAH: A 7-year-old motorcycle pillion rider was killed in an accident involving two vehicles on the Tanah Merah–Pasir Mas road near Kampung Bukit Merah yesterday.
In the 6.30pm incident, the victim, Nur Irdina Aulia Zainudin, 7, was pronounced dead at 8.30pm while receiving treatment at Tanah Merah Hospital.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Haki Hasbullah said the accident is believed to have occurred when the motorcycle exited a junction onto the main road and collided with a van travelling from Tanah Merah towards Pasir Mas.
He said the victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Tanah Merah Hospital for treatment before succumbing to her injuries.
“A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a media statement today.
