Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) president Jeffrey Kitingan today confirmed that the party had received and accepted the resignations of five of its leaders who broke ranks to declare support for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
Kitingan said their resignations meant that they automatically ceased to hold any positions in the party.
“A short while ago, the STAR Supreme Council met, and we have accepted their resignations,” he said in a clip shared on his Facebook page.
STAR deputy president Ellron Alfred Angin and three party vice-presidents – Abidin Madingkir, Annuar Ayub and Flovia Ng – said on Monday that they would continue backing GRS.
The four had joined chief minister Hajiji Noor at a press conference where he announced the dissolution of the state assembly, paving the way for the 17th Sabah election.
Ellron later said that another deputy president, Robert Tawik, would also be sticking with GRS in the state polls.
This came despite Kitingan pulling STAR out of GRS after objecting to the ruling coalition’s plan to maintain its electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan, a move which he said went against grassroots sentiment calling for locally led representation.
