SONGKHLA: Some 4,000 Malaysians are stranded in hotels and on flooded roads in southern Thailand as continuous heavy rain inundates the region.
Hatyai-Songkhla Hotel Association President Dr Sitthipong Sitthiprapha said local authorities had provided food and boats to move stranded tourists to safer areas.
He said the main road from Hatyai to Sadao is cut off, leaving many Malaysians unable to return home, though no casualties have been reported so far.
Malaysian Consul-General in Songkhla Ahmad Fahmi Ahmad Sarkawi advised Malaysians to temporarily postpone travel to southern Thailand due to severe weather and widespread flooding.
“The Malaysian Consulate-General in Songkhla advises all Malaysians planning to travel or visit southern Thailand to delay their plans because of ongoing heavy rainfall and floods affecting many areas,” he said.
Ahmad Fahmi also urged Malaysians in southern Thailand to stay alert to weather developments, follow instructions from local authorities, and ensure their personal safety.
For consular assistance, Malaysians can contact officers on duty at +66 81 990 1930 or via email at [email protected].
Continuous rain since last Monday has caused flooding in eight southern Thai provinces, forcing nearly 124,003 families to relocate to safer areas.
