4 charged with killing policeman in Kedah

PETALING JAYA:

Four men were charged in the Alor Setar magistrates’ court today with killing a policeman in Kedah earlier this month.

Badry Azami, 24; Hafiz Khazli, 26; Badri Iman Abdul Nasir, 25; and Saifuan Noor, 34 were charged with the murder of 35-year-old corporal Hafizul Izham Mazlan before magistrate Eliana Ismail, Berita Harian reported.

No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the High Court’s jurisdiction.

The four were jointly charged with killing Hafizul, a member of the Kedah police contingent’s criminal investigation department, in front of a house in Taman Golf, Alor Setar, at 3.43pm on Aug 7.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code is punishable by the death penalty or a maximum 40 years in prison, upon conviction.

The court set Nov 23 for mention and the transfer of the case to the High Court.
