Police arrested three men in their 30s and 40s after a road transport department (JPJ) officer reported two lorry drivers for refusing to have their vehicles weighed.
In a statement, Putrajaya police chief Aidi Sham Mohamed said the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duties.
He added that the three suspects had been released on police bail.
Earlier today, the Malay Mail reported that JPJ had seized two sand lorries after two drivers and a lorry company owner intimidated, threatened, and obstructed enforcement officers in the course of their duties at Persiaran Perdana, Putrajaya, on April 12.
Senior JPJ enforcement director Kifli Ma Hasan said the incident occurred after JPJ officers stopped two lorries travelling from Dengkil to Kajang on suspicion of overloading.
“Both drivers intimidated the JPJ officers on duty by suddenly dumping sand onto the road. Fortunately, no accident endangering others occurred.
“The two lorry drivers also damaged the tyres and their GPS devices, rendering the vehicles’ engines inoperable. They then contacted the owner of the lorry company,” he said at a press conference.
The company owner arrived at the scene with accomplices who obstructed the officers and threatened a tyre mechanic called in by JPJ to repair the two lorries.
Kifli said JPJ officers had to stand guard and spend three nights at the location due to disruptions from the accomplices and the owner before the lorries could be brought to the Semenyih enforcement station.
Aidi said an investigation paper had been referred to the Kuala Lumpur deputy public prosecutor and that the police were awaiting further instructions.
