PETALING JAYA:

Three men were charged in the Jasin Magistrates’ Court in Melaka today with the murder of a man who had allegedly exposed himself indecently outside a kindergarten last month.

Kosmo reported that lorry driver K Krishnamorthy, 66, supermarket assistant Azmi Nor, 34, and mechanic M Yogesvaran, 25, nodded in understanding when the charge was read to them in Tamil and Bahasa Malaysia before magistrate Mazana Sinin.

No pleas were recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

They were jointly accused of murdering K Gunalan, 52, between 7.37pm and 8.59pm at the parking lot in front of Tadika Junior Q Bestari, Bandar Jasin Bestari, Jasin, on July 27.

They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code, punishable with the death sentence or 30 to 40 years’ imprisonment and whipping.

The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Nur Syazwanie Marizan, while the accused were represented by lawyers Amritpal Singh, K Shashi Kumar and A Mathan.

The court set Sept 8 for remention of the case.

On July 28, it was reported that the victim was beaten to death by members of the public for indecent exposure in Bandar Jasin Bestari.

Gunalan, who was married, was confirmed dead at the scene from severe injuries, including to the head.

Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said police received a report at 9.30pm informing them that a man had died from a public beating.
