3 dead, 14 missing after tourist boats capsize in China


ISTANBUL: At least three people were killed and 14 others remain missing after two tourist boats capsized in the Liuchong River in southwest ‘s Guizhou Province on Sunday, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) quoted the Xinhua News Agency.

A total of 77 people were aboard the vessels when the incident occurred in Qianxi City.

Sixty survivors were rescued and hospitalised, local authorities said.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for all-out search and rescue efforts and instructed that proper medical treatment be provided to the injured.

The accident took place during the ongoing May Day holiday period, which has seen a sharp rise in domestic travel and overcrowding at tourist destinations across the country, according to government data cited by Global Times. – BERNAMA
