2,949 flood victims left in Kelantan as waters recede


KOTA BARU: The number of flood victims in has dropped to 2,949 as of 8am today, down from 3,344 last night, as floodwaters in several areas continued to recede.

With improving weather, more evacuees have left temporary evacuation centres (PPS) to return home.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) disaster information portal, the remaining 2,949 evacuees, from 1,101 families, are being housed at 18 PPS in six districts: Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, Machang and Gua Musang.

Tumpat recorded the highest number of victims, with 1,497 people from 547 families at six PPS. Pasir Mas has 1,115 victims from 449 families at five PPS, followed by Tanah Merah with 123 victims (35 families at two PPS), Kuala Krai 117 (36 families at two PPS), Machang 68 (24 families at two PPS) and Gua Musang 29 (10 families at one PPS).

Meanwhile, data from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage’s Public InfoBanjir portal showed that Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang and Sungai Galas in Limau Kasturi, Gua Musang, have exceeded the danger level, recording 10.03m and 59.43m respectively.

Two other rivers remain above the alert level, Sungai Sokor in Kampung Sokor, Tanah Merah (18.33m) and Sungai in Kuala Krai (22.82m).
