2026 Proton Saga revealed: 1.5L i-GT engine, L1 ADAS, dual screens, wireless Apple CarPlay

After countless leaks, spy shots, and even an early appearance at the recent ASEAN Summit, Proton has finally taken the covers off the 2026 Proton Saga. The national automaker has officially released the first set of official images, alongside a list of features that have been equipped into the 4th generation Saga.

Proton didn’t specify which variants are getting these features since today’s announcement did not include any specs sheet. That being said, the majority, if not all of the features should be available on the high-spec Premium variant.

New exterior features

On the outside, the new Saga gets a completely fresh face, mainly in the form of a new front grille featuring the Sulaman Songket motif. This is flanked by LED Projector headlamps that include Daytime Running Lamps (DRL).

The all-new Saga also features a redesigned taillight, which is inclusive of a full LED light bar. In addition to that, the new budget-oriented sedan will ride on the newly designed 15-inch alloy wheels with a dual-tone finish.

Same engine as Proton X50, minus the turbocharger

Under the hood, the all-new Saga receives a significant upgrade through the new 1.5L i-GT engine. This is the same engine that was used for the 2026 Proton X50, but without the turbocharger.

Paired with a CVT, the performance numbers were not included in today’s announcement. However, Proton claimed that the new engine has a fuel consumption of just 4.9L/100km based on the Malaysian Driving Cycle.

The new sedan has also been fitted with an Electric Power Steering for a more refined driving experience. Proton also said that its signature ride and handling tuning ensures that the all-new Saga can deliver a perfect balance of comfort and control.

Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto

It used to be an awkward topic for Proton, but the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (AACP) capabilities are no longer a big deal for the national automaker these days. After delivering AACP at launch for the 2026 Proton X50 and Proton e.MAS 5, it is now the all-new Proton Saga’s turn to have the feature.

While today’s announcement didn’t indicate whether the budget sedan will have the feature at launch, Proton did say that the 2026 Saga supports AACP over a wireless connection. At the same time, the car also features a pair of digital screens with a combined screen size of 16 inches.

Upgraded Safety through L1 ADAS

Proton has also equipped the all-new Saga with a Level 1 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). This system enables 9 key safety features:

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • Front Departure Alert (FDA)
  • Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC)
  • Rear Collision Warning (RCW)
  • Lane Change Assist (LCA)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
  • Door Opening Warning (DOW)

This ADAS suite is complemented by standard safety features, including 6 airbags and a Proton Reinforced Safety Structure (RESS) built with Hot Press Forming (HPF) components.
