JOHOR BARU: Twenty undocumented migrants, including Chinese and Myanmar nationals, were arrested during a raid at a building under renovation in Mount Austin, a senior immigration officer said.
Johor Immigration Department director, Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus, said they comprised 16 Chinese nationals, 14 men and two women, and four men from Myanmar.
Those detained in the “Ops Kutip” operation were aged between 22 and 58, he said.
“The operation, carried out by Johor Immigration enforcement officers, targeted immigration offences, including the employment of undocumented foreign workers and misuse of social visit passes.
“During the raid, several workers tried to flee, but officers swiftly prevented them,” he said in a statement today according to Harian Metro.
Mohd Rusdi said all were alleged to have committed offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
They were later taken to the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further investigation.
