Two young siblings were rescued unharmed after getting stuck in a baggage conveyor system at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) last night.
Kota Kinabalu fire and rescue station chief Hannis Mokthar said an emergency call was received at 9.52pm, and a team was immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Fire and rescue personnel have to use special equipment to free the trapped victims.
“Both children were then taken by ambulance to the Likas Women and Children’s Hospital for further examination and treatment,” The Borneo Post quoted him as saying.
Hannis said both children were safe and the operation ended at 10.20pm.
He also reminded parents to closely monitor their children in public places to prevent similar incidents.
It is believed the children, aged two and three, had been playing near the baggage conveyor belt in the inspection hall.
The younger one became caught in the conveyor belt mechanism, while the elder one was exposed to radiation from the scanner machine.
