KEPALA BATAS: Two people were killed and another seriously injured in a road accident involving two cars in Kepala Batas this evening.

The collision, which occurred at 6.22pm along Jalan Shah Bandar, Taman Bertam Perdana, involved a Perodua Myvi and a Proton Iswara.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department operations division assistant director John Sagun Francis said firefighters arriving at the scene found two victims — the driver and a passenger of the Perodua Myvi — trapped in the front section of the car, while the Proton Iswara driver was also pinned inside his vehicle.

“Firefighters used specialised rescue tools to extricate the victims, with the operation lasting until 7.48pm.

“The Perodua Myvi driver, a 56-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His passenger, a woman, sustained serious injuries, including fractures to her left arm.

“The 22-year-old Proton Iswara driver suffered severe leg injuries and was immediately given emergency medical treatment before being rushed to hospital,” he said in a statement tonight.

John added that the Proton Iswara driver later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.
