SHAH ALAM:

Eleven men and three women were detained as of yesterday following the commotion that broke out during demolition works in Kampung Jalan Papan, Klang on Wednesday, say police.

police chief Shazeli Kahar said most of those arrested were from NGOs, based on reports lodged by the parties carrying out the demolition order.

“However, all of them have been released on police bail after preliminary investigations,” he said at the police headquarters today.

Shazeli said the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his public functions.

This morning, the Klang magistrates’ court rejected a police application to remand 10 activists and residents detained in connection with the demolition in Kampung Jalan Papan.

Parti Sosialis Malaysia deputy chief S Arutchelvan was reported as saying that six more people were detained today, including PSM central committee member Chang Yee Shan and Suaram coordinator Jernell Tan.
