14 arrested following fight in front of cafe in Pontian


PONTIAN: Fourteen people were arrested following a brawl in front of a cafe in Taman Kota Emas early yesterday.

District police chief Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib said the incident about 4.25am took place in front of Show Cafe.

He said, acting on a report on the incident, a team from the district Criminal Investigation Department arrested 14 men aged between 13 and 26.

He added that the report that was lodged claimed the complainant’s younger sibling was beaten up in the incident and had to receive treatment at Pontian Hospital.

“Police have opened investigation papers under sections 427 (committing mischief, causing damage to the amount of RM25), 148 (possessing weapons) and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement.
