
Twelve people were elected to the Malaysian Media Council board at its inaugural annual general meeting today, representing media companies, journalists, and the public.
They include the council’s interim chairman, C Premesh, New Straits Times group editor Farrah Naz Abd Karim, Star Media Group chief content officer Esther Ng, and Wong Yang Yong, general manager of The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo.
In the journalist and media association category, those elected are Fauzi Ishak from the Malaysian Media Club Coalition, Mariah Airens Doksil (Sabah Journalists Association), Ishak Abdillah Ngah (Terengganu Journalists Club) and Adie Suri Zulkefli (Kedah Elite Media Club).
The remaining elected members are Zaharom Nain, Terence Ooi, Cynthia Lorraine Silva and Medina Mahmood.
The council is an independent body established as a self-regulatory mechanism for the media industry and aims to promote journalistic ethics and media freedom.
