KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 104 foreigners, primarily from Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan, were denied entry into Malaysia after failing to provide a clear purpose for their visit, valid accommodation, or return tickets, while some offered dubious reasons to support their applications.

In a statement, the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) said its officers screened 54,947 international visitors on Aug 29 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminals 1 and 2.

“Through thorough inspections and screenings, MCBA KLIA successfully identified 104 travellers who did not meet the stipulated requirements.

“Investigations revealed that most of them, particularly those from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, failed to provide a clear purpose of their visit, lacked proper accommodation or return tickets, and furnished questionable reasons for entering Malaysia,” it said.

MCBA added that efforts were underway to repatriate 288 travellers currently stranded at KLIA after being denied entry.

It said the day’s movements involved 362 international flight arrivals and 361 international flight departures.

“MCBA will continue to take firm action to safeguard the nation’s entry points and ensure that only visitors who meet the requirements are allowed into Malaysia,” it said.
