KUALA LUMPUR: The Works Ministry will install a Bailey bridge along the Jalan Gua Musang-Kota Baru route, which is currently closed.
Its Disaster Operation Room (BiGBen) commander, Muhammad Shukeri Mohammad, said the installation will take about a week, and the route will be temporarily reopened for road users next week.
“The installation of the Bailey bridge began today and is expected to take about a week,” he said.
He added that the route will be reopened to motorists on Sept 28, following the scheduled completion next Saturday.
It was previously reported that the state’s Public Works Department director, Nik Soh Yaacoub, had sought federal funds to repair the road, which developed a severe crack between Machang and the Simpang Tiga Kemuning overpass.
The road has been fully closed to all vehicles due to worsening land sedimentation that poses a danger to motorists.
Separately, in a statement today, the Works Ministry said it has mobilised 2,570 feet of Bailey bridges as a preparatory measure ahead of the northeast monsoon season, to overcome disconnected roads in Kedah, Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Johor, Selangor, Kelantan, Perak, and Kedah.
