#SHOWBIZ: Accused of sexual crimes: Naim Daniel didn't expect to be given a chance

: Following the legal proceedings he currently faces, singer and actor Naim Daniel said that it has not been easy for him to handle his ongoing court case.

Despite the challenges, the 28-year-old, whose real name is Muhammad Naim Daniel Baharin, said he is grateful for the chance to continue working.

He is currently recording a new song, which is expected to be released at the end of this month.

“It’s not an easy journey and it demands a lot. This is also a way for me to become more mature in the future. Life has to go on, so I have to keep myself busy with useful things,” he told BH Online.

Naim, who arrived at the Palace of Justice as early as 6am, told waiting reporters that he was relieved the day’s proceedings went smoothly.

He also expressed hope that all those who listen to his music and support him will be blessed.

“Right now, I am focusing on work and moving forward. I want to make sure my loved ones surround me, and I have to make sure I stay healthy because if I’m not healthy, how can I live a good day?” he said.

Because of this, he makes sure to get enough sleep and remain inspired to write songs.

On June 17, Naim pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to charges of physically assaulting a 17-year-old girl for sexual purposes.

The alleged incident occurred at 8.56pm on May 19 at the Ukiyo Hotel in Petaling Jaya, .

He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and a possible whipping.

Meanwhile, the Sessions Court has set Dec 15, 16, and 18 as the trial dates for “Sumpah” singer.

The dates were set by Judge Datin M Kunasundary during his case management proceedings this morning, according to Harian Metro.

In addition, the court set Oct 17 to hear the prosecution’s application for the victim’s statement to be given via video link.
