Flood-hit students in Sabah, Sarawak to get university registration flexibility

KUALA LUMPUR: The Higher Education Ministry has instructed all public Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs) to provide registration flexibility for students affected by the floods in Sabah and Sarawak.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, said universities would offer adequate assistance and leeway to ensure no students are deprived of the opportunity to continue their studies.

“To the prospective students and parents currently facing the challenges posed by the floods, particularly those who are due to enrol at public universities soon, please do not worry or be anxious.

“I urge those affected to contact their respective universities to inform them of their situation,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Zambry also announced that the Malaysian University Student Volunteer Council, along with volunteer teams from the IHLs, will be mobilised to aid in post-flood recovery.

He extended his deepest sympathies to all disaster victims, expressing hope that they are granted strength, patience, and fortitude to endure the current hardships.

“Thank you to all those who have stepped forward to help and contribute. Please take care and prioritise your safety. May the situation return to normal soon,” he added. — BERNaMA
