NEW YORK, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) — The U.S. dollar climbed in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.49 percent to 97.349 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro lost to 1.1779 dollars from 1.1835 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was down to 1.3550 dollars from 1.3640 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 147.95 Japanese yen, higher than 146.72 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar increased to 0.7927 Swiss francs from 0.7886 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3807 Canadian dollars from 1.3771 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar added to 9.3655 Swedish kronor from 9.2787 Swedish kronor.
