Malaysia, Azerbaijan reaffirm commitment to strengthen bilateral ties

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Azerbaijan have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic ties, with both nations eyeing expanded cooperation in key sectors.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim said his meeting with Speaker of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, this evening underscored the shared determination to strengthen relations established since 1993.

“Malaysia views Azerbaijan as a strategic partner with vast potential, particularly in the fields of energy, tourism, the halal industry, as well as construction and mineral cooperation. These are foundations we intend to reinforce for the benefit of both our peoples,” he said in a statement on Facebook.

also commended Azerbaijan’s role in advancing the regional peace agenda, including through its recent engagement in the Washington Framework for Peace.

He said Azerbaijan’s leadership on the international stage — especially through the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Parliamentary Network — exemplifies the power of diplomacy, not only as a tool to resolve conflicts, but also as a means to uphold justice and humanity.

“In today’s increasingly fractured world, Malaysia chooses to remain a voice of reason and a balancing force — a mid-tier power in the geopolitical landscape — committed to bridging East and West through diplomacy and statecraft,” he added.

said the government would continue to pursue constructive international engagement aimed at fostering a more peaceful and equitable global order.
