Man, 73, found dead after fight with friend on Pangkor Island

LUMUT, Sept 18 — A senior citizen who was believed to have been involved in a fight with his friend at a house in Sungai Pinang Kecil, Pangkor Island, was found dead at the place of incident at about 1.45pm yesterday.

Manjung District Police Chief ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman stated that they received a report about the incident involving the 73-year-old victim at 2pm.

“The investigation found that the victim sustained severe head injuries and was unconscious before he was confirmed dead at 1.45pm by medical personnel from the Pangkor Health Clinic who arrived at the scene,” he said in a statement today.

According to him, the victim’s body has been sent to the Forensic Department of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) for a post-mortem, while the motive of the incident is still under investigation.

Additionally, Hasbullah said that based on public information, police arrested a 73-year-old man, believed to be the main suspect in the case, in front of an eatery in Sungai Pinang Kecil at 2.30pm on the same day.

He added that the Seri Manjung Magistrate’s Court has also granted a seven-day remand starting today to assist with further investigation.
