BERNAMA - Kelantan Records Rise In Heavy Vehicle Overloading Cases

KOTA BHARU, Sept 18 (Bernama) —  has recorded an increase in heavy vehicle overloading cases from January to August this year, said State Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Mohd Misuari Abdullah.

He said 13 cases were recorded under the Land Public Transport Act 2010, while 1,080 cases were recorded under the Road Transport Act during the period.

Mohd Misuari said that cases under the Road Transport Act rose sharply compared with 890 cases in the same period last year, while those under the Land Public Transport Act were slightly lower than the 16 recorded previously.

“The compound value imposed for January to August this year increased to RM126,000, compared with RM58,000 in the corresponding period last year.

“Overloading offences involved vehicles transporting construction materials such as sand, logs and soil, as well as raw materials including iron ore,” he told reporters after attending the Maulidur Rasul celebration and the farewell ceremony for the JPJ deputy director in Panji here today.

Mohd Misuari said he viewed the offence seriously, as it not only caused damage to road infrastructure but also increased the risk of accidents and endangered the safety of other road users.

“We urge all commercial vehicle operators to adhere to the load limits for the safety (of road users) and the sustainability of the country’s infrastructure.

“The public is also encouraged to lodge complaints on overloading offences through official channels to assist enforcement efforts,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Misuari said that during Ops Gempur Kenderaan Perdagangan, conducted from Sept 1 to 17, 5,358 vehicles were inspected and 2,415 offences recorded, involving expired driving licences, expired road tax, overloading, carrying dangerous loads, and no insurance coverage.
